Along those lines, I should also mention that when using an online backup service, not only will you be backing up your data offsite, the service provider will also be doing the same, ensuring your data is completely protected.</description>

		<description>Great article Dan. The challenge that I see in Australia is educating home PC users that backing up is mandatory. It all comes down to how much you value your data.

I use USB sticks as well and find them very useful but I have also lost them, so they are as you say temporary.

I also use a hard drive at home that keeps a copy of all of my files especially the larger files eg videos and movies. Just like a PC however, external hard drives also have movable parts and can fail, get stolen or get damaged.

For my really important files I use online backup (Carbonite). It takes them offline and I can access them regardless of what happens to my laptop. I can even access them from any PC remotely whenever I need to.</description>
